Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
